Mini-Meals
From bite-sized hamburgers to individual casseroles, "mini" is hot when it comes to meals. There are lots of ways to work this trend into your catering. You might serve a regular meal and add a mini-dish, such as an individual quiche, on the side. Or, go for a mini-main course, adopting a dish that's traditionally served in large portions, like lasagna or meatloaf, into a personal-sized dish. Presentation is king with this idea, so have your caterer seek out individual serving dishes (we've seen some adorable ramekins and tiny cast iron skillets!) that will fit your wedding theme.
Signature Cocktails
Mixed drinks, served with or without alcohol, are a great way to add color and style to your catering. Work with your caterer to find flavors that will compliment your menu; then, create your signature drink. Ask your caterer to rent special glasses to serve it in – such as mason jars, tall champagne flutes, or colorful margarita glasses. Be sure and give it a cute name!
Edible Dishes
Dishes do double duty when food is served in edible containers. From squash soup served in a pumpkin to stuffed bell peppers, if you can dream it – you can eat it. Drinks and dessert can take part in the trend too; we've seen sake sipped from hollowed cucumber "shot glasses" and sorbet served up in scooped-out lemon cups. While this idea is a showstopper, it can also increase your bill because of the extra labor involved. Work with your caterer to incorporate the trend where it will have the most impact for your money.
