The Vintage Wedding Dress
The definition of vintage is a group or collection of things sharing certain characteristics or characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal. Therefore vintage can be of any age or era that appeals to you romantically. Vintage clothing is defined as being between 20 and 100 years old. Anything over 100 is considered antique. Capturing the look, feel and romance of a certain era is your objective when planning your vintage wedding.

That can mean confining your vision to one certain era or you could go eclectic and incorporate the looks you find most appealing to you from more than one similar era.

When Queen Victoria married in 1840 she chose a white dress. This changed the ideal of what a wedding dress should look like. The majority of brides today choose the "wedding white" in varying shades such as ivory, ecru or eggshell. Prior to that time, blue was the color of choice symbolizing purity. Styles have changed dramatically over time although have been based on the styles of the day. When choosing a gown with a vintage look you may want to wear your Grandmother's dress or purchase a new one with that same look and detail. It may be feasible to have Grandmother's dress restored and/or altered or it may be possible to find that perfect dress with elements of the past you desire. Today all these styles are available whether you want the style to reflect the 1920s which were shorter in the front and longer in the back, the sweetheart neckline of the 60s, full floor length skirt with petticoats of the 50s or the softer more flowing skirt or the 70s. Choose the style that reflects your personality, the one you feel beautiful in, the one that fits your vision of your wedding day. All eyes will be on you.
